This 1970s duplex in Denver was originally dark and compartmentalized, with an enclosed stairwell and a galley kitchen squeezed into the dining area.

Our design-build team immediately recognized the opportunity to reimagine the space: removing the wall between the living and dining areas, opening the stairwell to enhance light and sight lines, and swapping the kitchen and dining placements to create a larger, open kitchen with a functional island. The designer worked closely with the homeowners to ensure seamless flow, thoughtful storage solutions, and safety features for this aging couple hosting their children and grandchildren.

The renovated duplex is now flooded with natural light from front to back, and the expanded sight lines make the space feel nearly double its original size. The kitchen features a custom cherry range hood as its focal point, off-white shaker perimeter cabinets, an oversized cherry wood island, quartz countertops, copper-toned subway tile, GE Café appliances in matte white, and a mix of brushed brass and oil-rubbed bronze hardware. The new stairwell showcases red oak newel posts and handrails with oil-rubbed bronze balusters, blending elegance and functionality throughout this Denver duplex remodel.
